How to remove the location from an iPhone photo
Why it matters
Your iPhone can save where each picture was taken. If you share that picture, the place can go with it. For a photo taken at home, that may include your address.
Check whether a photo has a location
- Open the photo in Photos.
- Swipe up, or tap the Info button (ⓘ).
Leave it out when you share
- Select the photos and tap Share.
- Tap Options and turn off Location.
- You'll see Location Not Included above the Options button. Share as usual.
Remove it from the photo
- Open the photo and tap More (•••).
- Tap Adjust Info, then Adjust Location.
- Choose No Location.
Stop saving locations from now on
- Open Settings, then Privacy & Security.
- Tap Location Services, then Camera.
- Tap Never.
New photos won't appear on the map in Photos after this. Older photos keep their locations until you remove them.
What else can a picture carry?
Pictures can also hold the date and the camera model. And a location isn't the only thing that gives a place away: a street sign, a school uniform or the view from a window can do it too.
How FirstHour helps
Share sends a copy without the location or camera details, and your original doesn't change. If you share a picture from the Vault, the location is left out, but the date and camera model stay in the copy.
Questions
Do apps like Messenger remove the location?
It varies by app and can change, so it's safer to remove it yourself before you share.
Does removing the location change the picture?
No. It only changes the details saved with it.
